Wanda Kerr has me Seeing RED!

The color RED that is!!!
Wanda has a great article in the newest issue of Rug Hooking Magazine on dyeing reds. I love her articles because she gently prods you to experiment and use the dyes you already have if you don't have the particular BRAND of dyes that she is using in her article.
Yesterday I gathered up a bunch of my odds and ends of wools.....natural, purple spot dyes, rusty plaids, golds, camels, gray and white checks and whatever else I thought red would look good over.

Plus, I'm sure you've heard me say before that all of those bits and pieces of wool lying around just drive me nuts!
I was going for bright rich reds and orangey reds with some dark reds thrown in for contrast.

So what am I going to do with all of these reds?

I'm going to make a rug for my kitchen.

Go forth and be creative,

  1. Oh my I have heard reds can be hard to get but just look at all those gorgeous reds Tammy. I haven't recieved my issure yet but will keep an eye out for this article. You have inspired me to dye up some reds.

  2. Oh Me Oh My! My favorite neutral! OMG I am lovin' all those shades of red!!! Can't WAIT to see what you're going to do with them!!!!

  3. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these reds!!! I dyed some last week also but thrown in a pile together, they look even better!!! Hope my RHM comes soon!

  4. You've got a great start for your rug--great colors!!! Any ideas as to what your pattern's going to be?

  5. LOL Tammy - you read my mind!! :) That is exactly what I was going to do today! My RHM came on friday and i have been thinking about this all weekend! Tooo fun! I can't wait to see the rug you have planned!! Hats off to REDS!!! :)

  6. I think my rug is going to be a runner for my kitchen....I'm thinking something modern with lots of circles! I'll post pictures once I have something drawn up.

  7. Lovely colours!! They are very vibrant and beautiful. Great job and the runner will be wonderful.

  8. I was going to ask what kind of rug you were going to do for the new kitchen but I see you already answered that. Your pile of reds is gorgeous, Tammy, and they look so pretty all smooshed together like that. I finally got my RHM yesterday and I've already read it cover to cover.

  9. I just love your creations and this red wool is gorgeous.

I chose you for the Primitive Excellence Award.

You can pick up the award at my blog.

    Have a great day.
