Progress

I did finish the book…..loved it!

As for the rug….I’ve made progress….got two big flowers prodded in….

BEFORE

AFTER

….now to tackle that darned leaf!

I think spring is on the way….saw a robin bathing in the birdbath Sunday as we were leaving to go to Kenny’s moms for his birthday dinner…..

We had enchiladas, corn on the cob, spinach salad….the really good kind with bacon and hard-boiled eggs and this wonderful birthday cake!

It’s a Pig-pickin’ cake….pineapple, mandarin oranges, whipped cream…..it’s the bombe!

They say it’s your birthday!

Yesterday was Kenny’s birthday….we had margaritas, steak, Paula Deen’s creamy hash brown casserole, Peculiar baked beans, red pepper toast, strawberry rhubarb pie from Julie’s Chewies  with ice cream.…..then movies.  It was a great night!

Sherri of Shabby Sheep stopped by while Kenny was at work (she was picking up more wool to dye for her fabulous Etsy store) and brought him this great “Ozark Tourist Pottery” pot and he’s already got a plant planted in it….he loves it!  I swear, those two are kindred “junking” spirits!

He’s incorporated it into his spring table scape….

Now, we’re getting ready to head across town and eat at his Mom’s house for his birthday……I’m DEFINITELY going to have to get reacquainted with the treadmill come Monday!

Finishing

All endeavor calls for the ability to tramp the last mile, shape the last plan, endure the last hours toil. The fight to the finish spirit is the one... characteristic we must posses if we are to face the future as finishers.
~Henry David Thoreau~

Today I’m “finishing”….. “finishing” up the last garden rug ( I need to hook in two more flowers and re-work the leaf and do the binding)

and “finishing” up this great book, that I bought at the Habitat Restore while I was in Florida for just 25 cents!

Yesterday I “finished” the taxes

and “finished” my CEU’s to send in for renewing my nuclear medicine technologist license.

Ahhhh…… it will be nice to be “finished” …….

so I can start new projects!

Sassy has a home!

I saw yesterday, that Sassy has been adopted….I hope this is her forever home!

While I was unpacking….

…. and rinsing off my seashells that I collected and others also collected for me at the beach….

…..Kenny was busy making fruitcake!

After Christmas he gathered up lots of “fruitcake stuff” on sale…..he was off work yesterday and today, so this evening he decided to whip up some fruitcake!

The hardest part was finding a container large enough to mix everything together in!

First he mixed together the dry ingredients.

1 lb. Ritz crackers, crumbled

1 lb. candied pineapple

1 lb. candied cherries

1 box seedless raisins

4 c. chopped pecans

1 c. walnuts

7 oz. flaked coconut

Cook 1 lb. marshmallows and 1 tall can Pet milk (evaporated milk) until melted.

Pour melted marshmallow mix over other ingredients that you have mixed together in a very large mixing bowl.

Mix all together and mash down in an oblong pan, 13 x 9 x 3 lined with waxed paper, or into paper lined loaf pans.

Lonnie: “please drop something”

“please, please drop something”

Refrigerate one week.  Then it can be frozen in slices.

Make sure you have someone near to help you “clean up”.

“He didn’t drop anything, but he always shares”

Mangrove

Today I saw a part of Florida that I had never experienced before. I went kayaking in the mangroves. Can you see that little indentation in the trees? That's where we go in.

I'm in the orange kayak.

Once you get in the mangroves you are pretty much covered under a thick tree canopy & paddling through a narrow passage way.

When we came out of the mangroves we saw these birds, I rink they were white ibis.

Also came across another group of trees with lots of birds perched in them, now I can't remember if they were ibis or egrets....regardless, they were beautiful!

Another great day! The mangroves were beautiful, but also a bit eerie....i can see how this setting could inspire a great novel or movie....throw in a few alligators, getting lost at night or in a storm, well, you get the picture.....i have a very active imagination!

Kayaking

Today I went kayaking with Patti, Julie, Chris, Neil, and Wayne.
Omg....now I really feel like I'm on vacation!
As we were putting our kayaks in the water, there were dolphins swimming within 50 yds. of us. So beautiful!!!
We stopped at an oyster reef, and gathered tons of oysters.....again,so much fun!!! Julie cracked some open & we ate them raw, right there as we were gathering them.

We gathered oysters for quite a while and then headed on out and found another area where we found lots of conch shells with the conch still living in them. This one was about 8 pounds & over a foot long! After we studied him for a while we put him back....conch are endangered in FL

When we got back this evening, Neil and Wayne shucked oysters... Lots of them...we had oyster and clam (we found a few of those too) chowder, oysters on the half shell, and oysters baked with butter, garlic, Parmesan and bread crumbs....it was like "Oyster Festival"!!!!
I had never been kayaking before.....so peaceful and beautiful, really makes you feel closer to nature.
I think we are going out again on Friday, but this time in the mangroves.

Sunshine Hook-in

Wow! It was great! Great vendors, GOBS of hookers, lots of talking & shopping...didn't, pull a loop! Got no pics on my iPhone... Met Alice from "A Day in the Life" and Tammy from PRHG, as well as Polly Minick, Sharon Townsend, Anne Eastwood, & DeEtta from Fiddlehead Finery. This is the stash of wool I acquired.....

I did hook a little once I got back to Patti's house.

Going kayaking today!

Ringling egret

After I scrubbed the Sharpie marker off my legs I headed to the Ringling Museum..... The miniature circus display was amazing.... Took pics with my real camera, so I'll share those when I get back.
Sat on the back patio of the Ringling mansion overlooking the ocean.

Later, I had lunch at Lido beach and shared my curly fries with this friendly egret.
