I’m trying to get rid of some of the clutter in my life and as I’ve been reading, I’ve found that I like to look at these quotes and excerpts from books to help me ease into it and make letting go easier.
“To change skins, evolve into new cycles,
I feel one has to learn to discard. If one
changes internally, one should not
continue to live with the same objects.
They reflect one’s mind and the psyche of
yesterday. I throw away what has no
dynamic, living use.”
—Anais Nin
“A space with less stuff (and more organized
stuff ) actually creates a sense of abundance
more than a jam-packed space. Likewise,
someone whose life has too much stuff
crammed into it just feels overwhelmed,
while some one who knows exactly what
they love about life and spends their time
doing those things will feel much “richer,”
regard less of their actual income.”
~Allison Marks
“It might also be helpful to keep in mind
that there are no wrong choices. EVER!
This is not life or death — if you accidentally
get rid of some thing and regret it
later, it’s not going to ruin your life. If you
keep your focus on what you’re moving
toward — your dreams and goals —
rather than what you’re getting rid of, the
potential losses will come to seem minor
and it will be much easier to stay on the
right track.”
~Allison Marks
I also like to sing, “Please release me, let me go”!
Just watch one episode of Hoarders and you will want to purge! :)
ReplyDeleteLiz, I think watching Hoarders is what started me on this route....I'm NOWHERE close to having that much stuff, but it still makes me realize that I need to get rid of what I don't love or use!
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, I think watching Hoarders is what got me going too! The dining room is almost finished. Easing on into the wool studio tomorrow to build shelving with cubbies to sort the wool by colors, dark, medium and light! Still going to use the cedar chest for all of the bolt wool but still can't decide whether to keep it in the living room as the coffee table or move it into hooking studio.
ReplyDeleteAND I Drove Right Past a DOZEN garage sales today and didn't even put on the brakes in the car!!! I CAN Conquer this addiction to other peoples junk. Gosh, it's hard! Especially if you see something REALLY cool from the car (I call them drive~bys)........nope...kept driving..yeah!!!!
