That kind of day

It has started out to be “that kind of day”……slapping on nail polish to cover the chips on the way out the door and holding them up to the heater in your car as you drive to work….(my current obsession…Jitterbug nail polish from China Glaze  a grey chrome with silver micro glitter polish)

trying to drink your coffee out of a mug with no lid and praying that you won’t smudge your nail polish before it has a chance to dry OR slosh your coffee down the front of you  as you brake for the stoplight!

It really makes for an unsettling start to your day…..and worse than that, it’s self induced!

Oh well, now I’m at work, we’re not all that busy and hopefully things will be looking up!

By the way,

Booty!

Kenny’s treasures from an afternoon of “junking”!

Yes, we have a “thing” for light up Christmas stuff…..what was your first guess?!

I really love this little Santa… he has a light up ornament in his hand….I think that will be replaced with a “bubble light”

Another light up Santa…..that makes a total of 3….

A Sandra Lee cookbook….already flipped through it and there is a recipe

for chili omelet…..I think that sounds delish!

A McCoy dish for a friend…..love the colors on it!

Oh yeah, did you notice the white spaghetti lamp and the orange spaghetti lamp….

those will probably end up in the sunroom with the rest of them

….however, they have started to migrate to other areas of our home…

Psyched!

I’m psyched!

I put down some vacation time on the calendar at work……it’s what I call a double-play……

we are off work on Thursday for Thanksgiving and we also get Friday off as well…..

so I’ll have those days off PLUS the whole next week for my vacation….can’t wait!

Tonight Kenny is cooking out and we’re walking the dogs…..he went “junking” today…..

…he asked me to please let him in the house when he gets home……

I can only imagine what all he’s “drug in”.  I keep trying to liquidate and he keeps accumulating…

It’s the yin and yang of our relationship I suppose.

$198 at Anthropologie

Why pay for this when you could probably make one out of sweaters from your closet or thrift store?

I must say I like how they have left the buttons and pockets and necks on a lot of these sweaters.

Would you make one this fall to use this winter?!  I might!

Dark so early

Here it is 7:30pm and I’m already in my pjs!

I detest daylight savings…..losing so much daylight just makes me want to go to bed early and watch tv or read a book

……I’m starting a new one tonight

….actually, I started it a week ago and then started reading “Water for Elephants”

….so now back to “The American Painter Emma Dial”

Creativity

"Others may steal your ideas, but they can't steal your Creativity.
Those who steal ideas will always be chasing behind those who are original and ahead of the game."
~ Think Simple Now

My latest creation is this little bag…..I had one similar in shape and color, but it was sewn of cotton cloth and I’d had it for years and one of the zippers broke….perfect excuse to make a new one and since I have a kazillion “wool worms” from rug hooking, I just tied a gob of them together and then knitted them into this little bag.

Just a nice little bag to sling across your body and hold your camera, cash and lipstick….

I found a pretty little batik fabric for the lining….

…..works perfectly!

Why I love autumn

The bright, brilliant colors that fade into each other…..

the way the sun seems lower in the sky and makes those really long shadows…..

the crunching of the leaves under your feet…….

Today is a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. Today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes this day will be gone forever. In its place is something you have left behind. Let it be something good!

Mini stay-cay

I took a couple days off work to have an extended weekend.  Yesterday, Kenny was off as well, so we headed downtown and had lunch at the Springfield Brewing Company.

We were a little disappointed in our food…..just kind of ho-hum, (I had quesadilla and he had black bean pizza…..I think we’ve gotten to the point that we cook so much at home and can control exactly what we put in our food, that the last few times we’ve eaten out, we’ve been disappointed……does this make me a food snob?  However, I still get the hankering for the fish tacos from Purple Burrito….we should have had that instead) but the atmosphere is great…sitting in that old building surrounded by all the beer making equipment.

I also took Kenny by “Obelisk Home”.

I went there for the first time last week with Sheri and I just love looking around in there.  I saw these chairs……LOVE….but they only come in this one fabric….which I wasn’t crazy about….however, Kenny loved the seashell mirror, but not the price….almost $4,000….but uber cool!

They also have these chairs that I love as well…..love the shape again, but would want a funkier fabric.

They already had the artwork displayed for tonight’s Art Walk….I especially loved this painting by Karen Schneider….this month’s artist.

Isn’t that an awesome tree?!

Kenny came back home and worked in the yard and I headed out for some retail therapy.  I got another one of these GelPro mats for our kitchen…..OMG, these things are “the bombe”!  You can’t tell the new one from the old one and we have had the other one for about a year….I’ve stood on it in spike heels and the dogs have been on it…..I’m telling you…they are great!  Anywho, I had saved up a bunch of “credits” on my Discover Card and cashed them in for Bed Bath and Beyond gift cards.  Kenny cashed in some points as well on his card, so the new mat was FREE!

Then I headed on over to TJ Maxx and Marshalls, because they are right next to BB&B and I ended up getting these boots that I just love, Love, LOVE!  Seems I’ve got a boot fetish this year!

I also found some pillows and a throw that I like, but I’m waiting on those…..just not sure and I wanted to check out what is new at Pier1 Imports before I make my final decision…(yes, I have a 20% off coupon for there)…..it just kills me to pay retail. (After hitting TJ Maxx and Marshalls I went in Borders Bookstore….ordered a latte and totally lost track of time while I was looking at decorating mags and all those wonderful mags by Stampington and Company…..of course I had to look through this one that had Dulcy’s handbags….

This newer one…yes, it’s prims, but all dolls…..

Thought I might get some good holiday ideas out of this one….but didn’t find anything that grabbed me…

Also, looked through this one here….I thought it did have a few great ideas….especially the Mason jars….to see inside click HERE.

I think this issue was my favorite….I love the embellished packets made from parchment paper and wax paper to put seeds in as gifts that is on the cover….

….I also liked these little peat pots covered with papers…

So, I guess you can see how you could totally lose track of time…….

Oh yeah, on the home front, Kenny also ordered some wallpaper for our entryway……grasscloth……I think it might be a week before it gets here.

On the creative front, I’ve also started knitting a bag….you know, the kind that has the long strap that you can sling across your body….just big enough for a camera, credit cards and lipstick……here’s what it looks like now……

It’s just a bunch of my wool “worms” tied together and then knitted…..so it will be about this size here…..

I just need to go on-line and look at this little tutorial about casting off…..it’s been quite a while since I’ve knitted….but I love the organic feel that it has.  I’ll keep you updated with the progress…

Another great read and a new home

A big thanks to Ter’e for recommending this book:

I’m nearing the end and I’ve really enjoyed reading it…..another one of those books where you can just lose yourself in the story.

Here’s an excerpt from the book…..this is how it starts out and isn’t it the truth?! (You can buy it from Amazon super cheap…it’s on my sidebar, or do like I do, and request it from your local library, a thrifty girl’s best friend.) That way you have more money left for wool and clothes!

I am ninety. Or ninety-three. One or the other.

When you're five, you know your age down to the month. Even in your twenties you know how old you are. I'm twenty-three, you say, or maybe twenty-seven. But then in your thirties something strange starts to happen. It's a mere hiccup at first, an instant of hesitation. How old are you? Oh, I'm—you start confidently, but then you stop. You were going to say thirty-three, but you're not. You're thirty-five. And then you're bothered, because you wonder if this is the beginning of the end. It is, of course, but it's decades before you admit it.

You start to forget words: they're on the tip of your tongue, but instead of eventually dislodging, they stay there. You go upstairs to fetch something, and by the time you get there you can't remember what it was you were after. You call your child by the names of all your other children and finally the dog before you get to his. Sometimes you forget what day it is. And finally you forget the year.

Actually, it's not so much that I've forgotten. It's more like I've stopped keeping track. We're past the millennium, that much I know—such a fuss and bother over nothing, all those young folks clucking with worry and buying canned food because somebody was too lazy to leave space for four digits instead of two—but that could have been last month or three years ago. And besides, what does it really matter? What's the difference between three weeks or three years or even three decades of mushy peas, tapioca, and Depends undergarments?

I am ninety. Or ninety-three. One or the other.

My other bit of happy news……Jessie found a home! YAY!
