Steamed fish

IMG_3610

The fish rug is steamed and laying in the sunroom drying

and waiting for binding.

IMG_3611

Just curious…..where do you rest your rugs while you are

waiting for them to dry after steaming?

We have hardwood floors throughout most of the house, so

that is not an option unless I want MORE water spots on my

floors.

We have slate in the kitchen and den, but there is way too much

dog traffic, so mine always end up on the sunroom floor.

Coming Together

Something that you may not know about me is that I typically don’t

watch the news.  I find it so hard to stay positive when there are so

many bad things going on in this world.

Last week, a little 10 year old girl, Hailey Owens, was abducted as she walked home

from her friend’s house….they found her hours later, shot to death.

She disappeared a few blocks from my husband’s aunt and uncle’s house.

She was found in the neighborhood where I owned my first house.

About a mile from where I live now.

Just a few blocks away from where one of my co-workers lives.

This tragedy has rocked my home town and they have turned out in

force to support this little girl’s family. People lined historic

Commercial Street to the tune of about 10,000 people.

Sometimes the bad news is too close to escape it……

Chili Cook-Off

IMG_3604

Yesterday my husband and I attended the 2014 Sertoma Chili

Cook-Off.  I think this is our third year to attend.  It’s a day

spent tasting a variety of chilis, (you get a little tasting cup

and spoon when you arrive and the vendors all give you

a sample of their chili and you have one ballot that you get

to cast on your favorite chili)

drinking cocktails and listening

to bands and hopefully running into people you haven’t seen

in years.

Approximately 10,000 people attend and the proceeds go

to the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield.

Today, I’m taking time to put a few more auctions on eBay.

If you want a great deal on some rug hooking type items

check out my auctions by clicking on any of the pictures

below. I’m starting my auctions at really low prices….just have a

few items that need good homes.

Loving Miss Daisy

I’ve had a report that Daisy is settling in to her foster home….

well, maybe permanent home…..this makes me so happy!!

(You can click on her picture below, if you missed out on

the beginning of the story)

photo 1

It appears Daisy & her foster family have fallen completely

in love and are going to adopt Miss Daisy!

photo 3

I’ve heard that her foster brother Roscoe and her have started

playing a bit by chasing after each other.

It’s reported that the boyfriend, above, has never let dogs on

the furniture before…..looks like that is changing.

Funny how those long ears just wiggle their way into your heart!

She loves to sit with her new mom’s father….

and she loves snuggling under the covers.

Seeing Red

IMG_3581

I love red…..I mean LOVE! If you would look at my wool

stash you would see what I mean…these are just scraps of

BRIGHT reds from other projects.  I also have brick reds

and orangey coral-y reds as well.

IMG_3580

It’s my goal to work through my stash and make a big dent

in it before purchasing more wool….well, if that’s the case,

I decided I’d best “get on it”!

IMG_3582

I also have many left over patterns from my teaching days,

so I’m just turning them over and drawing on the other side.

I really needed a bigger pieces of monks cloth than this, but I

guess I’ll just sew on “cheaters” to get me through.

IMG_3583

Yes, I can hook fast when I want to!

IMG_3584

I’m loving this…..kind of “Moose Gone Modern”

IMG_3590

This is my first time to do a real “hit and miss” type rug,

well, actually it’s going to be a pillow.

I’ve also got bookoo “worms” to work with….tried to sort

them into “piles”.

DARKS

IMG_3588

(I think my camera is making some of my darks look like they

are fooling around with the brights!)

IMG_3585

Must say I was inspired by Bea Brock’s new book…..one of

the best books to come out in a while (in my opinion).

Wonderfully and thoughtfully written and beautiful photography!

Now I’m off to have a glass of wine, yes, it was THAT kind

of Monday!!

Red Wine and Fish

Thursday evening we stopped by an event at WineSpot

to benefit

While we were there we met Dolly, a sweet

little dachshund who has been living at the

shelter for over a year, looking for that special

someone to make her part of their family.

She reminded us a bit of our Cleopatra, because she was

older and a bit chunky, so adorable!

IMG_3570

If you want to know more about Dolly, just click on her picture.

Of course, we got to sample some wine and we found a couple

to take home with us….how fitting that the wine had a basset

hound on the label!

Little did we know when we were tasting, that this is a local

wine and it has a story to go along with it.  To read the story,

I’ve had an extended weekend, (yay!!!) so I had time to work

on the trout rug….so much time in fact, that I have finished

the hooking!!!

IMG_3572

IMG_3573

Finishing this has me back in the hooking mode and I’ve even

started another new rug…..

Happy Valentine’s Day

IMG_3561

Little mice made from Hershey’s kisses…

Pinterest made me do it!

Hope you all have a very happy Valentine’s Day!

What a sweet, sad little face

UPDATE: DUKE HAS FOUND A HOME WITH A LOVING

FAMILY!!

I’m posting this on behalf of a girl who works with

my cousin. If you are interested please

e-mail me at tamboinmo@yahoo.com

“I really hate to do this, but I have a one year old bloodhound/mastiff mix

that needs a good home.

He is up to date on his shot records.

Friendly, loving dog. Raised with my kids.

He needs room to play. I have a small yard and he keeps

jumping the fence. I want to ensure he goes to a good home! “

“He is a year old. He is house broken (has a few accidents due to work hours).

He has been raised with my 5 and 7 year old children.

He loves to run and play with them outside.

I'm not sure about cats. He has been an indoor dog since

he was a few weeks old. He just learned to jump my fence and I

don't want him to get out and get hurt.

Breaks my heart to get rid of him bc he is my baby.”

Good deals!

Yes, I’m clearing out more hooking stuff!

2 items a week!

I’ve tried to go on big binges and list gobs of

stuff on eBay all at once, but it just wears me out.

2 things a week is definitely more do-able for me!

This week I’ve got a hook made from Sculpey clay….

probably the funnest looking hook I’ve ever owned!!

IMG_3557

Also parting with one of my little rugs…..

Click on the pictures to go to the auctions….they both have

low starting prices and I’ve tried to keep the shipping reasonable.

Not trying to get rich…just trying to pass on some good deals

to hookers and free up some new space for new projects.

Great Update!!!

Little Charlotte got adopted!!!

Off to find another sweetie to feature!

Ideas?!

We continue to get snow…..

and as much as I love winter, I’m starting to

think that I’ve had enough.

The good thing is,  it keeps me inside and I’ve picked

my hooking back up.

I’d like to have this rug finished and bound in time to take to the

Lenexa Hook-In at the first part of March.

I picked it up this weekend and worked at it like I meant it!

IMG_3548

(click on pic to see it larger)

Then I took a picture and that’s when it jumped out at me…

all of the dark rocks at the lower right hand corner just

drag your eye to them……

So…..un-hook the rocks and hook them in a more medium tone?

Or in bright colors, or un-hook and add another part of a fish?

I’m not sure? What do you think?

until now…..THANKS DULCY!!)
